Does Paint Correction Include Painting Your Car?

What is paint correction?

Over the years, we’ve had plenty of potential clients contact us, asking if we can repaint parts of their vehicles. We don’t offer any vehicle painting, aside from very minor rock chip repair. The confusion is totally understandable, though. Paint correction is the most frequently used technical term for what we do…but not the most clear.

What does paint correction actually do?

Paint correction has nothing to do with the actual PAINT of the vehicle. In reality, it is working on correcting the topmost layer of the paint system - the clear coat.

What does the paint correction process look like?

I use a machine polisher, with a carefully chosen combination of pad and product. I decide, based on the condition of the clear coat and goals of the client, how much speed and pressure to use. This decision is important, because the process of paint correction actually takes away some of the clear coat every time. This makes the swirls and surface scratches more shallow. This either eliminates them or at least makes them less visible, depending on how deep they are.

When is paint correction NOT a good idea?

Please note: this is why, in some cases, I do NOT recommend paint correction. If the clear coat on a vehicle is compromised, or just doesn’t have enough thickness to achieve good results without causing damage, it’s just not worth it. MANY vehicles look amazing with a less invasive machine polish (followed, of course, by a ceramic coating to keep them glossy and easy to clean!).

If your concerns about your car go as deep as the actual paint (or the surface below THAT), your best bet is to have that section of your car repainted by a good body shop (we have a couple in Wichita we recommend). Then come see us for a polish and ceramic coating!
