We tip our restaurant servers…we tip hair stylists…but what about our detailers? Is it appropriate to tip? Is it necessary or expected?
The answer (at least at Let’s Roll Coatings) is…do whatever you want.
We have two points for our clients to consider.
- Up until now, our clients have only dealt with me (Luke) as the owner/operator for the past few years. Especially as the business owner, I neither expect tips, nor assume I’ll receive them. I set my pricing at a level that works for my business model and to provide for my family. That said, I definitely won’t turn down extra generosity if you feel so inclined.
- As our business grows and our clients work with staff who are NOT owners, the dynamic is different. While we pay our team members competitively, and do our best to reward excellent effort. However, if a client wants to add on a little something in recognition of their hard work, it will ALWAYS be greatly appreciated. An important note here: a non-owner employee at Let’s Roll always receives 100% of tips on any job to which they contribute.
Bottom line: When working with us, tipping is never expected or assumed. However, it is always appreciated.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for your business!
Luke Neal
