Why We Don’t Offer a Wash and Wax

One of the purposes of our blog and social media posts is to provide valuable content to our clients and community.

We want you to be informed consumers in the auto detailing industry, knowing what the terms mean and understanding of what types of services are available.

First of all, we’d like to clarify that this post is in no way derogatory toward businesses who DO offer more “express” services, such as a wash and wax. No two businesses are exactly alike and there is room for all of us (at least those who are doing it with integrity). The following choices are simply those we believe to be best for our clients and business model.

A commonly used phrase in the auto detailing industry is “wash and wax”. Sometimes we receive inquiries requesting this service specifically. Our hope with this blog post is to give some insight into why we don’t offer this level of detail.

1. We want, more than anything, to provide high-value, long-lasting result for our clients’ vehicles.

Because of this, the vast majority of our appointments are for paint correction or machine polishing, followed by an application of ceramic coating. As of right now (updated in 2023), our schedule is almost exclusively full of this type of service, the most popular being a polish and ceramic coating.

It is the best option.

2. Wax is not typically the best choice.

While there are varying degrees of effectiveness in the wax products available (from pastes to sprays, etc.), they are simply NOT products with longevity. A wax will last, at MOST, 3-4 weeks.

3. A wax offers little to no protection for your vehicle’s exterior.

As mentioned, we spend a lot of our time removing or reducing surface scratches and swirls. Many of these defects could be avoided, or at least minimized, with appropriate protection. A ceramic coating acts as a sacrificial layer between your vehicle’s clear coat and the (frequently harmful) elements. Our ceramic coating is also is rated to last about 3-5 YEARS.

Within the realm of high-end detailing, we actually offer quite a few possibilities.

  • Ceramic coating is the obviously first choice. For vehicle owners who plan to keep their cars for at least a few years, this is our top recommendation. Our ceramic coating lasts 3-5 years with proper care, and is the top-tier option to protect your valuable investment. As a huge added bonus, a ceramic coating makes washing your car much faster and easier too!
  • If ceramic coating just doesn’t make sense for your vehicle, we offer a 6-month enhancer, which brings with it exceptional gloss. If you’ve read our posts about the inspection/consultation process, this comes into play. If staying within a budget is a top priority, we want to help you get the most for your money. An enhancer offers much better value (both in aesthetics and longevity), while staying in the lower end of our pricing.
  •  If the route of an enhancer is chosen, our process then includes a hand wash, surface decontamination, enhancer installation, window cleaning, and wheel and tire cleaning.
  •

PLEASE NOTE: For our returning clients, we do offer express wash services. These are typically very brief, since the majority of our clientele have their vehicles ceramic coated.
