Claying (also called “claybar-ing” or “decontaminating”) a vehicle includes:
- Using a detail spray, wet an area down about the size of 3 shoe boxes
- Take a clay bar or clay mitt and wipe the area softly to remove any embedded contaminates in the clear coat (these contaminants include industrial fall-out, dirt, tiny rocks, bugs, etc.)
This step is absolutely key to achieve a smooth surface before paint correction is begun. If this is not done—done correctly—you could end up causing even further damage to the vehicle’s paint than it originally had.
